Favorite Sites
Here are some sites I visit either often, daily, or multiple times a day, minus people in my linkage on the Home Page.
This is the game website I visit most often. It has reviews, updates, news, some blogs, and other stuff. What I like about them is that you can usually trust their reviews for games, sometimes they can be a little harsh, and sometimes not harsh enough, but overall very trustworthy on their rating for a game. Also, they have video reviews so you can see the game in action while hearing what they think about the game.
This is a nifty rating site that gathers reviews from all over the place to give you a general average of ratings/reviews for Games, Movies, DVDs, Music, and TV series. It’s sort of my backup for Gamespot, if I feel like maybe they rated something wrong, I’ll check here to see what others think.
This is something Dev showed me awhile ago. It’s a well put together site that lets you play games of Chess. Many options for game length, you can have a friends list, challenge people, they have tutorials and mentors(i think), and you can watch replays of some of the best games of the day. Dev and I usually play games that require a move every 5 days. So they last a long time. But it gives you something to do whenever you get online, just check it, make your move, and move on. You can have multiple games going at once, too. Find me on there as AwkwardSilence.
ATS is a very fun site to browse around on, if you’re into this kind of stuff. I think Dev was the one to show me this one too. It’s sort of a conspiracy site where people post blogs of their opinions on politics, or videos of UFO’s and strange happens, or leaked information, either video, audio, or news articles. I would recommend giving it a try, but don’t always take everything too seriously. I mostly go for the UFO/Alien type stuff :-P
This place is wonderful. Its basically a response to FMyLife.com, which is people submitting stories of shitty things happening to them. MLIA is like the opposite. These are just average short stories of people’s days, with interesting and more enjoyable endings, usually resulting in a new friend.
Coming Soon is just a preview site for movie updates/news/photos/Trailers/etc. It’s fun to see what to expect in the years to come for movies and stuff. They have a lot of interviews with people and are really just all around informative.
This site is kind of iffy. I go here just to entertain myself and see what their critics say, but I can’t say that I agree with their ratings for a LOT of movies. A lot of my friends use this to decide if a movie is worth seeing, but I think that’s bullcrap. They get it pretty wrong pretty often, and they think they know everything about movies, but they don’t. I feel like they look at every movie and just want it to be some masterful work of art, and that will get a movie a high score, otherwise it will get a 70 or below. Kind of annoying. Still, some critics make some good points so they CAN be right sometimes. Metacritic is probably a better place to go if you care about reviews, and they influence you on movies.
Video Copilot is great. If you’re interested in video editing, or just need to add some professional looking special effects to a video, try this place out. They have video tutorials on tons of special effects in After Effects to really add something to your video. Go here and just browse some stuff, if you scroll over the picture of something it will show you a preview of what the tutorial will end up as. I’ve only done one, of a guy getting hit by a car and it turned out pretty well. These tutorials are VERY do-able, even for extreme beginners.
Can’t think of anymore, might add some later so check back.
